The Bar started out in 2005 as a baking blog and a platform for me to improve my sweet-making skills. Although I’ve expanded out of that comfort zone into cooking, baking nevertheless has a very special place in my heart. Any good well-stocked supermarket, such as Waitrose and Asda (in the UK), Cold Storage and Tierney’s (Singapore), should stock your regular baking supplies. But I’ve put together my favourite places for specialty baking, cupcake and sugarcraft supplies to share with anyone who might be looking for more special or simply unique items for any baking occasion.
UNITED KINGDOM
This perfect little online retail store stocks has a comprehensive inventory for chocolate making, cookies, cupcakes and whatever seasonal sweets you intend to concoct. Staff are friendly and should you have any queries with regards to their products or just a general baking equipment question, they are really helpful. This is my go-to whenever I need to pimp my cakes out with sugar sprinkles, icing colours, the works.
This shop sells a range of cupcake boxes whether you’re packing the whole batch in or doing them in individual boxes. Boxes come in the usual fare or interesting denominations like round, clear boxes or with daisy tops; takeaway boxes with prints; cupcake stands and wooden cupcake trays. I’m in love with their Cath Kidston-style cupcake wrappers. It’s true dedication to the cupcake cause.

A shop that stocks a wide range of Wilton products, BIY boasts a fantastic range of edible cake decorations, baking and kitchen tools, icing and food colours, gourmet mixes and more. The full range is available to view on their website B-I-Y.com, however, you will have to drop them a visit at their retail store as they do not do online retailing. Hidden away amongst coffee shops and little cafés, this shop stocks Wilton products, party bags, a range of cake boxes, cupcake liners and white papered nut cups. It’s also a gem of a shop for different types of sprinkles, ingredients, Valrhona chocolate and seasonal items.
